The world’s most prominent eCommerce marketplace, Amazon, is setting up hair care salons in London equipped with augmented reality tools, offering consultations and point-and-learn technology.

Called the Amazon Salon, the company aims to open a physical space in London’s East End Spitalfields area, complemented by an AR app that will enable customers to evaluate how different hairstyles and colors will look on their faces.

The facility will offer a portfolio of boutique offerings for hair by Elena Lavagni, Neville Hair & Beauty owner. Customers would also be able to try on multiple hair colors virtually using AR.

“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products, and stylists in the industry,” said John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager, Amazon. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

The Amazon Salon will also experiment with a new point-and-learn technology that would allow customers to point towards and click at the product they want. While they perform this action, a digital window will pop up to showcase the relevant information about the product, including brand videos and educational content.

The salon will open for Amazon employees first before opening its doors for the public after a few weeks.
