The leading global online learning platform by 2U, edX, has announced two Spark Augmented Reality (AR) courses created in collaboration with Meta. The courses have been developed through a partnership between edX and Meta Immersive Learning.

The two entities aim to create a learning ecosystem for the metaverse to provide professionals with the tools and education needed to excel in a career in augmented reality.

edX is a distribution partner for Meta’s Spark AR Curriculum, providing its community of 44 million learners with free-to-audit courses that can help them prepare to become a Certified Spark AR Creator.

The first two courses – Getting Started with Spark AR and Creating and Designing with Spark AR, provide learners an overview of the skills required to work with augmented reality tech. They introduce them to fundamental AR design principles and AR content creation techniques using Spark AR Studio. More free-to-audit courses focused on advanced Spark AR skills will be released on the platform later this year.

“The metaverse has vast potential to change how we experience and access education, much like how various technologies came together ten years ago to increase access to high-quality education at scale with MOOCs,” stated Anant Agarwal, edX founder and Chief Open Education Officer at 2U.

As part of the partnership, Meta will also provide a voucher for free access to the Spark AR Certification exam to the first 200 learners who complete the Spark AR for Beginners program on edX. Learners will also gain access to the company’s exclusive job platform, Meta Career Programs Job Board. The platform connects learners possessing a Meta Certification with affiliated employers looking to hire skilled talent.

“We’re thrilled to work with edX to help students prepare for careers in augmented reality,” said Leticia Jauregui, Global Head of Meta Immersive Learning.
