Most of us in Generation Z has grown up while playing games like FarmVille, Words with Friends, and Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells, all of them being created by Zynga. Now, two accomplished individuals from the company have decided to take the plunge and reinvent their experience at Zynga through a new venture in the world of virtual reality, called ForeVR.
Their aim is to create VR titles that can be enjoyed by people of ‘all ages’. Their website suggests that their mission is to build games that enable ‘friends and families of all ages [to] connect and have fun’. As expected, they have roped in distinguished talent from the gaming industry, including the likes of Glu Mobile, EA, and Disney for their studio.
According to VentureBeat, their investors include Twitch co-founders Emmett Shear and Justin Kan, and Zynga founders Mark Pincus and Justin Waldron themselves. It is speculated that the team is planning to launch a bowling VR game titled ForeVR Bowl that will be compatible with Oculus devices as soon as early next year.
During an interview with GamesBeat, Segal said that the idea for the game was conceptualized considering the ease with which bowling could be played on Wii. He exclaimed, “It’s a great place to start this accessibility revolution for VR.” With a star team like they’ve got, they are fully capable of accomplishing their mission of making virtual reality an approachable domain for everyone.
VR has been a hot space in recent years, with many players jumping into the industry. The launch of Half-Life Alyx had left all the fans of the classic PC franchise astonished with the potential of the game in a virtual reality setting. Other titles like Boneworks, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Beat Saber, Resident Evil 7, and Star Wars have been consistently setting higher benchmarks in terms of where the industry could go next. We’ll have to wait to witness where ForeVR’s bowling game ranks on the roll.
Coming back to their former playground, Zynga, the company had launched a huge project using their Star Wars license earlier this year. In addition to this, they’ve had access to a few of cinema’s biggest IPs in the past, such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Willy Wonka, and The Wizard of Oz. Zynga is gearing up for something big going into 2021 while putting the shutter on the all-time favorite FarmVille.
