Rec Room, the social virtual reality platform, has recently secured a $100 million funding and taking its first steps towards starting a functioning digital economy. Rec Room is preparing to hit one of the world’s largest userbases, with the launch on Android devices.

The Android launch is undoubtedly a massive piece of the puzzle for Rec Room, as it will have cross-play with all supported platforms like iOS devices, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Oculus Quest, and SteamVR.

The social VR platform is far from being just a digital chatroom for virtual reality and non-virtual reality tools, even though it allows packs of bespoke content and can develop rooms and avatar accessories.

Users’ ability to develop their stuff has been the foundation of the game’s burgeoning economy, allowing users to build avatars or rooms and sell them for the in-game token. Users can buy these tokens with cash.

The game has a large userbase in the medium, and it is set to explode in number upon the release of Android support potentially. The aptest point of comparison is the game’s 2018 launch on the iOS platform, where the download increased by 600% year-over-year.

With the latest $100 million investment, the company is now valued at $1.25 billion.
