The France Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai unveiled ‘Notre-Dame de Paris, the Expérience,’ an innovative exhibition to showcase the cathedral’s 850-year history through physical scenography and augmented reality.

The exhibition takes the visitors through the Middle Ages, featuring the cathedral’s construction, and showcases its religious, cultural, and political relevance. The participants can also see the progress on ongoing restoration work following the damage due to a fire in April 2019.

‘Histopads,’ a state-of-the-art tablet developed by the French startup Histovery, is being used to deliver the historical experience to the visitors, including the coronation of Emperor Napoleon I and the construction of the spire of Viollet-le-Duc.

Histopad’s AR tech will also help visitors understand the restoration work’s scale and complexity and the various kinds of crafts used for it.

The experience opens its doors on the eve of France’s National Day celebrations at Expo 2020 Dubai and will run until November 1. It will be followed by a more expansive ‘Notre-Dame de Paris’ exhibition, scheduled to be held in Paris at the Collège des Bernardins in spring 2022 before touring Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

The exhibition is powered by L’Oréal Group, Expo’s Official Beauty Products, and Services Partner and a significant donor for the cathedral’s restoration.
