After working with The Void and building several virtual reality experiences for Star Wars and Ghostbusters, Dustin Hansen is going to be the creator of a VR-themed story featuring the Beast Boy and Cyborg from the Teen Titans at DC’s Flash Facts.

The book will hit the shelves on February 2nd and is an anthology of stories where DC superheroes explain complex phenomena. It features Flash and Kid Flash battling climate change and Supergirl going around the solar system. Mayim Bialik, the Big Bang Theory star, is one of the editors for the book and her foreword to the novel recalls her journey from her early days on Blossom to obtaining a doctorate in neuroscience.

My Video Game Ate My Homework, a kid-friendly story with gaming themes, was Hansen’s entry into the team for Flash Facts at DC. Moreover, his experience in terms of working with VR technologies made him the perfect fit to come up with these stories. He believed Cyborg and Beast Boy’s buddy dynamic from Teen Titans Go would complement the story well.

“I’m a huge fan of Teen Titans Go in particular and I love all the fun musical songs and goofy things that Cyborg and Beast Boy do [like] talking about food. If these two were going to play in a VR world they would absolutely want to go skiing down a spaghetti mountain,” Hansen said.

According to Hansen, creating an imaginary world wasn’t really much trouble but including VR was far more complicated because of the constant evolution of VR headsets.

He added, “This space changes so fast and I worked on this probably about six or eight months ago and since then sensors are on their way out and gyros are becoming a much more important part of how they’re doing head tracking.”
