BOOM! Studios this May is releasing a new miniseries ‘EVE’ from writer Victor LaValle and artist Jo Mi-Gyeong. The series is an imaginative sense of hope among the darkness of a breaking world. It is a 5-issue series that follows the title character, Eve. The character has spent her life living in a VR world, while the outside world is a different matter altogether. Melting ice caps released a dangerous virus that has wiped out much of the human population.

To save her real father now, Eve has to leave her isolated childhood house and see what the earth looks like now because Eve might be the last hope to protect it. The series was first announced in February and LaValle, the writer described EVE as an effort to consider a central, existential question of the present life that how today’s generation is going to leave the world for the next generation.

“What kind of planet are we leaving to our kids? This is the question that spawned my comic book. It’s an old one, of course. Many generations have wrestled with it, but the question has never been as immediate. But I didn’t want to write some grim story about how this joint went to hell. Instead, I wanted to write a story about how we let the planet fall apart and left it to the younger generations to fix it. So, this is a story, inspired by young folks like Mari Copeny, Elsa Mengistu, Greta Thunberg, and so many more, of how an eleven-year-old girl, EVE, and her android teddy bear try to do the seemingly impossible: save the planet, save us.” – Victor LaValle, Writer.
