WTIA (Washington Technology Industry Association) has stated that it will be starting a Canadian XR Startup Market Accelerator program for Canadian augmented reality and virtual reality startups. The program will prepare ten Canadian AR, VR, and voice-related startups for extension into the U.S. market.

Washington Technology Industry Association is a non-profit committed to developing a robust and sustainable technology sector, is partnering with Trade and Invest British Columbia and Global Affairs Canada. It is an 8-week virtual program that will include a mix of curriculum, mentorship, and introductions to help associates develop their entrepreneurial skills and enter the U.S. market.

The ten participating AR and VR startups are:

  • Avalon Holographics
  • Engage Creative Technologies
  • AlignVR
  • Cela Inc.
  • Humanitas Solutions Inc.
  • Eyexpo
  • WeavAir
  • Luxsonic Technologies Inc.
  • weshowup
  • Virtro Technology

“Extended reality is on the cusp of reimagining legacy industries like healthcare, construction, and hospitality, and these ten companies represent some of our industry’s best and brightest.” – Michael Schutzler, CEO, WTIA.

The program includes fundraising, workshops on sales, and other stage-appropriate topics. The program is customized for each organization, according to the association. The program will also provide coaching and mentorship to assist with localization applications and go-to-market strategies for entering the U.S.

“The greater Cascadia region has grown into a hub of XR market leaders with the likes of Microsoft, Facebook, and Google in Seattle; plus, Electronic Arts (EA) and Finger Food Studios in Vancouver. This XR Startup Market Accelerator program provides a great opportunity to further develop the region as an industry leader, coupling cultural and economic links between Canada and the Pacific Northwest.” – Brandon Lee, Consul General of Canada in Seattle.

WTIA has organized many virtual accelerator programs in the past, mainly during the COVID-19 situation.
