One public school and three aided schools in Ernakulam will offer online classes using AR technology, which will add a new dimension to virtual classroom learning.

Regular online classrooms depend on 2D images to communicate, while AR adds a new dimension, bringing images virtually alive in 3D.

According to the Principal of St. Antony’s Public School, Kizhakkambalam, augmented reality aids stimulate the senses and help students grasp ideas and concepts faster and easier. Liju P. Alex, principal, St. Antony’s Public School, also mentioned that her school was equipped to offer AR classes for LKG to Standard XII students.

Virtual classes in augmented reality will also be available to students of St. Joseph’s High School, St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, and St. Antony’s LP School.

The technology is used as a tool to visualize concepts. For example, in regular online classes, kids are asked to imagine the images, but in AR, the student can view the heart in 3D and experience its functioning via simulation.
