The pioneering global provider of medical technologies, Teleflex Incorporated, has announced a collaboration with FundamentalVR, a leading virtual reality company, to leverage its VR training platform.

The deal will offer Teleflex access to a virtual reality training platform to expedite the efficient use of the UroLift® 2 System, a cutting-edge medical device for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate. The VR training platform combines tactile feedback and a digital representation of the UroLift 2 System to equip urologists with a ‘hands-on’ VR experience that can augment their learning.

The UroLift System is a minimally invasive treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms brought on by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Doctors suggest it for treating symptoms of an enlarged prostate up to 100cc in men aged 45 and older (50 years outside the US).

Teleflex intends to enhance access to and standardization of clinical training for the UroLift® 2 System in the US and worldwide, including Japan, where it was recently approved for use. Urologists worldwide could practice the procedure remotely in a virtual environment thanks to the tailored solution from FundamentalVR.

The American Urological Association (AUA) meeting in New Orleans in 2022 featured a demonstration of the Fundamental Surgery platform at Teleflex’s UroLift® System booth. In August 2022, the platform will be formally introduced and made accessible.

“We are delighted to offer our customers this leading VR platform for surgical and procedural education, which offers advanced, realistic graphics to help demonstrate the ease of use of the UroLift® 2 System in a variety of prostate anatomies,” stated Kevin Hardage, President and General Manager of Teleflex Interventional Urology.

The Fundamental Surgery platform from FundamentalVR is adaptable and scalable, making them an excellent supplier to meet our customers’ training requirements for the UroLift 2 System worldwide.

Chris Scattergood, the co-founder at FundamentalVR, said, “We are delighted that Teleflex, a market leader in urology, has chosen FundamentalVR as their partner for their future vision. Integrating Extended Reality education solutions can have a positive impact on surgeons and patients.”
