New Berlin-based meta-tech company, JOURNEE, has officially launched. The future-focused innovators aim to pave the way in making the digital metaverse directly accessible globally. JOURNEE is marking its launch through BMW’s latest immersive technology event, Joytopia, on 5 September 2021 in association with US software giant Epic Games. The metaverse company, where virtual meets physical reality, is tipped to be one of the biggest breakthroughs in technology for human kind. JOURNEE is a future-focused, immersive tech company that specialises in enabling interactive, live-streamed experiences.

It is expected that over 1 million people will attend Joytopia, one of the biggest official forays into the metaverse, which is powered by JOURNEE. The unique five-day event features metahumans across numerous different worlds in jaw-dropping simulated environments. One of the many highlights includes a performance by global chart-toppers Coldplay, who is set to virtually perform to and address crowds in one of the five worlds.

The metaverse is expected to change the way people work, socialize and play in a post-COVID landscape and is set to provide alternative simulation that compliments the physical world. It will enable people to enter virtually or physically in their own space through mixed and augmented reality.

The term ‘metaverse’ was first coined by the sci-fi novelist, Neal Stephenson, in 1992,  describing a virtual world as a space where people would shop and socialise. It is a blend of the prefix “meta” (meaning beyond) and “universe”. In June this year, Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook’s plans to become a metaverse company to help people remain connected and do business post-COVID.

According to Statistica, there are 4.66 billion active internet users worldwide, with over 2.14 billion people expected to buy goods and use online services by the end of this year alone. Investment in developing the metaverse has accelerated, with Epic Games announcing the completion of a $1 billion round funding to help develop the metaverse further earlier this year.

Commenting on the launch of JOURNEE and leading the world into the metaverse, JOURNEE Co-founder Thomas Johann Lorenz said:

“We are both excited and proud to be marking the official launch of JOURNEE through the biggest metaverse experience directly accessible in the browser alongside BMW and Epic Games. The metaverse is the next big thing for the techworld, it will enable us to experience, shop, socialise and do business both virtually and physically as we try to remain connected in a post-COVID world. JOURNEE aims to make the metaverse a new way of life by utilizing the latest in immersive technology to generate out-of-this-world experiences from homes and hybrid spaces across the globe. The metaverse is here to stay and we predict that millions of people will, in time, live life and do business in an alternate universe.”

Speaking about his artistic vision for the Joytopia project in association with BMW, JOURNEE Creative Director and Co-founder Christian Mio Loclair added:

“We are super excited about the collaboration with BMW. The enthusiasm and support to go artistically and technically beyond has been tremendous. We do believe that the  metaverse has a future – if it contributes to our quality of experiencing each other, new exciting topics, and products. I’m more than confident that through our partnership with Epic Games, Joytopia is a gigantic leap toward achieving this goal.”
