After releasing its new virtual reality office meeting software, Horizon Workrooms, Facebook is now collaborating with Zoom to integrate the platform deeply into everyday workflows. The primary reason behind the partnership is the lesser widespread use of Oculus devices for which the software has been initially designed.
Workrooms aim to bring together colleagues into the office environment while being at different locations. The platform sports several immersive features, such as avatars and 3D spatial audio, and the ability to access the desktop computer and keyboard seamlessly from VR. Workrooms are expected to augment a team’s ability to collaborate, communicate, and connect.
Facebook will allow the users to join Zoom Meetings and use Zoom Whiteboard all from within VR via Workrooms from next year onwards.
The partnership and the product are both hints towards the fact that Facebook is investing heavily in its VR and AR tech to establish its stronghold within the metaverse or CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of an “embodied internet.”
