The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur is collaborating with Microsoft India to set up a Mixed Reality Center of Excellence at its premises. The initiative aims to offer cutting-edge healthcare services, enhance the institution’s remote healthcare capabilities, and provide innovative learning opportunities for staff and students.

AIIMS Jodhpur will also create a Mixed Reality Healthcare Lab focused on delivering enhanced learning experiences for medical students powered by mixed reality devices, such as the HoloLens 2. The education-cum-healthcare institution will also bring mixed reality enabled remote healthcare services to the nearby Sirohi district in an effort to strengthen the delivery of healthcare services to underserved locations.

“India is leading the way in accelerating digital transformation in healthcare, in line with the Prime Minister’s Digital India vision. We have a tremendous opportunity to provide reliable, safe, and cutting-edge healthcare services and solutions to every part of India with technology,” said Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Cabinet Minister for Jal Shakti, Government of India.

The partnership between AIIMS Jodhpur and Microsoft is a crucial step toward achieving the government’s mission. Emerging technologies, such as mixed reality, have seen an accelerated adoption all across the globe with rapid development and the imminent need for remote healthcare services. The partnership can pave the way for a swift transformation in how healthcare services and medical education are conceptualized and delivered in India within an interactive, 3D, mixed reality environment.

“We are excited to work with innovative institutions like AIIMS Jodhpur to expand access to healthcare training and services through the use of our mixed reality technologies, including HoloLens 2 and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist. We are proud to come together for this joint initiative to help address underserved communities and expand access to healthcare to every part of India,” said Ruben Caballero, CVP, Mixed Reality, Microsoft.
