As per the rumors around the block, Microsoft and Samsung have been working together on an undisclosed AR project since the summer of 2021. The expected deadline for the project seems to be 2023, with a possible commercial release in 2024. However, not much is known as there has been no official release from either company.

Nevertheless, Microsoft is definitely not new to the AR landscape. The company continues to extend support for its HoloLens 2 headset for everyday AR users and is also working on a comprehensive project with the US Army to produce custom device variants for use in combat scenarios.

However, if the rumors are to be believed, the hardware element of the project might be taken care of by Samsung. Its recent investment in the AR display device company, DigiLens, also hints towards the fact that Samsung could take the lead for that portion of the project.

With the ever-expanding AR and metaverse space, it shouldn’t be surprising to see the companies come up with something exciting to get on the bandwagon. However, we are unlikely to see any big announcement before 2024 or somewhere nearer to that timeline.
